Bahadzia, new genus, and two new species of amphipod crustaceans are described from anchialine caves in the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands. One of the species is recorded from three caves on Grand Bahama Island and one cave on Great Abaco Island, whereas the other species is recorded from two caves on the island of Providenciales. The new genus is apparently more closely related to Metaniphargus and Saliweckelia than other hadziid genera in the peri-Caribbean region, but it also shares some important characters with Mayaweckelia. |

The genus Andinophryne, characterized by the presence of an omosternum, an externally visible tympanum, elongate parotoids and extensively webbed hands and feet is described from the Pacific versant of the Andes in northwestern Ecuador and southwestern Colombia. Two new species, Andinophryne colomai and A. olallai are described from Ecuador. The recently described Bufo atelopoides Lynch & Ruiz-Carranza is transferred to the new genus. Some comparisons with other atelopodid Bufonidae (Atelopus, Dendrophryniscus, Melanophryniscus, Oreophrynella, Osornophryne, Rhamphophryne) are made and some very tentative remarks on their relationships are ventilated. |

During study of the materials of the genus Sonerila Roxb. (Melastomataceae) in the Central National Herbarium (CAL) of the Botanical Survey of India the authors came across some specimens collected from different parts of Southern India. These specimens after critical study come closer to S. wightiana Arn., a Ceylonese species, but can be easily distinguished by several characters. The distinguishing characters are keyed out below. The new taxon is described here with illustrations. The species is named after its collector, J. S. Gamble, who has made an eminent work on the flora of South India. |

Regional labour market studies have indicated that unemployment rates are considerably higher and participation rates lower, especially for females, in rural areas. A study of unemployment in four northern New South Wales towns of different sizes in May 1983, using household interview techniques and covering almost 1700 persons aged 15 years and over, revealed unemployment rates some 70 per cent above the national figure. In addition, participation rates were much lower and the duration of unemployment much greater than the national and state figures for the same month. Considerable variation was observed between the towns. |

This note further illuminates the strength and direction of starting point bias in iterative bidding procedures. Conflicting recent findings concerning the starting point bias phenomenon are first briefly overviewed. The hypothesis that starting values influence valuations obtained in iterative bidding games is then tested in an experimental setting using widely disparate starting values ranging from $1 to $8,000. Statistically significant differences in mean final bidding outcomes were consistently detected in games using different starting values. This evidence, combined with test results reported elsewhere, strongly suggests that starting point value selection can have subtle but significant effects on observed final bids. |

Several aspects of the situation pertaining to the citizens of Freetown, Sierra Leone are described in the first two chapters. The societal and economic contexts of the community are most heavily emphasized, particularly the transfer of rural institutions to the city as well as the small-scale industry and marketing aspects of Freetown's economy. The following four chapters highlight several approaches to development in the Third World. Those described are farming systems research, marketing systems research and development, community development, diffusion of innovation, development education, and management. In the final chapter, the various approaches are synthesized into a conceptual framework. This framework is composed of the following steps:... |

Three plant-inhabiting fungi with tetraradiate conidia, Tricornispora bambusae Bonar, Fumagopsis triglifioides Speg., and Eriosporella calami (Niessl) Höhn., the type species of monotypic genera, are redescribed and illustrated from type specimens. These genera are regarded as distinct. Fumagopsis is possibly closely related to Kazulia Nag Raj. Since the type specimen of Tridentaria Preuss did not bear a fungus which agreed with the very brief original description, the genus Tridentaria Preuss is regarded as doubtful. The nematode-trapping Hyphomycetes formerly placed in Tridentaria should be reclassified. |

The objective of this study is to estimate demand parameters for beef, pork, and chicken using budget share equations derived from the translog indirect form of the utility function for the period 1965-81. Estimates of uncompensated direct and cross price elasticities, expenditure and income elasticities, and Allen elasticities are the used to make inferences concerning changes in consumer behavior in the purchases of beef, pork, and chicken. When pressure on real income forces reductions in total expenditures for meats, the brunt of the reduced consumption will be felt by beef; pork consumption will decease slightly; and consumption of chicken may actually increase. |

Anastrophyllum plagiochiloides INOUE & GRADST. is newly described and illustrated. This species is characterized by 1) the flat or more or less convex leaves, 2) the strongly oblique leaf-insertion line on the dorsal side, and 3) the narrowly oblong leaf-shape with a narrowly rounded or subtruncate and sometimes bidentate apex. As these characters sharply isolate the species from any other known species of Anastrophyllum, the new subgenus Vanaea INOUE & GRADST. is established for this remarkable species. |

The rationale for compensating dairy cooperatives for the costs incurred in balancing milk supply for the fluid market is examined. A reserve-balancing pool is proposed to facilitate deducting supply-balancing service credit from a marketwide producer pool and making payment to cooperatives for providing the services. The volume of necessary reserves maintained for the fluid market determines the size of the reserve-balancing pool. A dairy cooperative qualifies for pool payment based on the volume of milk delivered for fluid uses and on the volume of necessary reserves actually balanced. An alternative qualification is to allocate the volume of necessary reserves each cooperative has to balance according to a cooperative's market share of milk for fluid... |
